Artist Candida Ridgwell
TULIPS ON BLUE is a small panel painting in the late medieval miniaturist tradition. Ridgwell is interested in painting the constancy of beauty and the stillness of nature in the rapidly moving world we inhabit today. Ridgewell paints in tempera and oil, a method that was used for a very limited time at the end on 15th Century. It is a technique that allows intense luminosity of colour to combine with fine, intricate detail. Ridgwell believes "that paintings of beauty and craft have an enduring relevance in an increasingly disengaged and virtual world."
