Get It Together

Candy Necklace

I am
sock-jawed
strong, strung
through candy
rings, each one
bitten and
sucked loose,
spit dribbles on
the neck of the
day. I am depleted,
my raw wire making
tiny squiggles against
sweet, wet skin.

Get It Together is a play about fleeting connection, and a romance that spans just two nights in two years.

A new play by Michael Quinn.

About the play

Mary takes Harold into a spare bedroom at a house party in Philadelphia. She’s an aspiring poet, he’s a computer science guy. They haven’t seen each other in years, but they know what they’re heading towards –– when the door closes, the conversation begins, and we follow them through a night of confession and teasing and tension. Then two years later, we see what that night has wrought: an unconsummated romance, an affection they apprehend but can’t have. It’s a romance of growing up into a tangled relationship, and finding out what we accept from relationships we know won’t work out.

A new voice.
