MIME  browses, sources, skims, cuts, clips, trims, hides and glues visages and busts from all time periods, all eras.  Each work is meticulously crafted from images found in old second-hand books.

A dialogue between the past and the present, the work comes to life in performances as his signature blue ink bleeds onto the image.

Echoes of the Past IX-X by MIME

“I'm a being attached to the flaws inherent in humankind. We are all much the same: we make mistakes, we feel vices, and at times, give in to them, and we correct our flaws as best we can. Humankind delights me, enlightens me, wounds me, no longer surprises me, and at times forgives me…"

Can you talk about your creative process, a day in your life?

I often turn different pages of my very old books I found in second hand libraries (drinking my coffee in the morning), finding inspiration and textures, then I select some human portraits to apply these visuals. Each day is different for me.

What fires your passion for your projects?

I love placing myself in the audience’s place. Trying to express something strong that could attract & blow the mind of my audience. If I feel mindblown by the art I make, I think there is a 50% chance of achieving the expected result. My goal is really to provide feeling, just by seeing the work.

What or who is your greatest inspiration?

There are two great collage artists that caught my attention, and they gave me the strength to practice collage : Isabel Reitemeyer and Jesse Draxler. Their collage approach is very specific.

What excites you about the future?

Turning my digital projects into physical artworks.

If you could build a new future, what would it look like?

Being identitifed as a citizen on social networks, avoiding being anonymous (no haters comments etc). People would be more responsible about what they say and maybe we would avoid fake news campaigns that are drastically influencing the (digital) world. I’m very sensitive on this purpose, I feel the danger in it, it’s very quiet in the process but the results are huge. :-/

What's the best advice you've ever been given and worst?

Best advice : “You should post on social media what you do with your papers.”

Worst advice : “You shouldn’t cut these books, it’s like book burning.”

What motto do you live by?

The world is not black or white, it's grey. I prefer blue.
