Private in NY

NEW YORK

PRIVATE

Wed, Jul 10 at 7:00 PM EDT

Join the fun on Wednesday, July 10th, at one of the most dramatic performance venues in New York City—the Sound Room of Brooklyn’s Public Records—for an immersive event incorporating readings, screenings and live performances.

The subject of the evening is Private, Tod Lippy’s ongoing series of images depicting the off-limits areas of commercial art galleries. The program will include a reading by novelist Ed Park of his afterword from Private, Lippy’s artist’s book (Mirrorical, 2024); the first New York screening of an eponymous single-channel video; and the world premiere of a related composition by Noah and Rosie K featuring a spoken-word performance by screenwriter Hampton Fancher

A live performance by Dollshot, the musical project of Noah and Rosie K, will be woven into the program throughout the evening, which will conclude with a reception in the space.

And a last-minute addition to tonight's program: A screening of Beach Parking, a short film made by Fancher in 1961, with a new score composed by Noah and Rosie especially for this program. This will be the first time the 11-minute film (edited by Francis Ford Coppola, who was then a film student at UCLA) has been shown since its premiere at the 1961 San Francisco Film Festival.

This event is free and open to the public. Space is limited and RSVPs are strongly recommended.  Please note: This performance will feature low lighting and strobe-like effects.
