Z33 + ALIA ALI
Let ALIA ALI guide you
IN COLLECTIVE RISE
FITTING IN opened on Saturday night at Z33 in Belgium. An impressive take over by 24 projects in a multi-experiential exhibition. The boundaries are blurred between fashion, visual art, photography, design and the world. Borders evaporate and questions tumble forth.
“How can we, without losing ourselves, become part of a larger entity?”
ALIA ALI leads the way up three flights of stairs, with 12 photographic sculptures, all produced with the support of master printers in Paris. Her work is encased in frames built by master woodworkers in New Orleans. Her installation takes the participant through 600 hand embroidered block prints by numerous Rajasthani masters. Be immersed in a stunning array of birds, palm trees and leopards finally reaching the climax; a fully upholstered portal.
Identities are liquid.
How exciting and rich life becomes when you invite more voices into your world view.
Watch this beautiful short film NOBU from two of the participating artists LISA KONNO & SARAH BLOK, about former world champion karate and Japanese immigrant Nobuaki Konno. Lisa Kong, his daughter and fashion designer asks him about cultural differences while he wears a collection she made for him.
